26 Feb New Treatment Plant Progressing Well
Call for community to continue water consumption reducing effort in lead-up to essential works
The Mount Isa Water Board is pleased to advise the installation of the new microfiltration infrastructure is progressing as scheduled, with the first of the new, permanent filtration units to be installed next week.
Stephen Farrelly, the Board’s Chief Executive, said the community’s great efforts to reduce water consumption need to continue to allow the next critical step towards a permanent filtration solution to proceed.
“We’d like to thank everyone for conserving water in the past few weeks,” Mr Farrelly said.
Over the past seven days, water consumption has averaged just over 15ML each day, which is within the capacity of the temporary treatment plant.
This has allowed the town tanks to be refilled from their low of 4% on 10 February 2015.
“Because of the community’s efforts, we’ve been able to fill all clean water reservoirs. This means we are now ready to start installation of the new filtration equipment.
“To install the first of the new, permanent units, we need to shut down the existing system for a period. To do that, we need all clean water reservoirs to remain at full capacity so there will be no disruption to the city’s supply during this essential work.
“We urge you all to keep up the good work on reducing water use as we manage this next critical step towards a permanent filtration solution,” Mr Farrelly said.
The Mount Isa Water Board is investing $9.2 million into new, micro-filtration water treatment infrastructure to increase filtration capacity for the benefit of the Mount Isa community.
This infrastructure is expected to be fully operational by the end of July 2015.
