27 Sep Mount Isa Water Board welcomes Cr Fortune as Director
Mount Isa Water Board welcomes the commencement of a new Director, Mount Isa City Council nominee, Cr George Fortune.
“Cr Fortune has always had a keen interest in the management of Lake Moondarra and the health of our water supply through is involvement with the Mount Isa Fish Stocking Group” Chief Executive, Stephen Farrelly said “He has always been heavy engaged with the community in which we operate and I know he shares our concern to see our city thrive”.
Mount Isa Water Board is governed by an independent skills-based Board of five directors appointed by the Governor acting of the advice of the Executive Council of Queensland. The Board’s job is to ensure the organisation makes decisions consistent with the objectives set by the Water Act 2000 which is to supply water in an efficient, effective and commercially successful manner and in compliance with our legal obligations. Mount Isa City Council has the opportunity to nominate one person to take on the responsibilities of a director.
Cr Fortune replaces Brett Peterson who did not stand at this year’s Council elections. “I know both the Board and myself have appreciated Brett’s contribution during his tenure” Mr Farrelly said “In any decision, the Board always considers the interests of the community who are the reason we do what we do; Brett actively contributed to this process, helping to ensuring good business decisions in the interests of stakeholders”.
Mount Isa Water Board is a State Government agency charged with managing $131 million in vital water transport and treatment infrastructure, delivering tens of billions of litres of water each year to customers, including the city and major industrial customers.
