20 Mar Community support appreciated as excellent progress made on new water treatment plant installation
Investment in the new $9.2 million micro-filtration system for Mount Isa’s water supply is already paying off, with significant progress made in recent weeks on the installation of the city’s new filtration units.
Stephen Farrelly, the Mount Isa Water Board’s Chief Executive, said that three of planned five new permanent units are now operating well, boosting daily production capacity and securing reliability of water supply for the Mount Isa community.
“Our thanks goes to the Mount Isa community for answering the call to reduce water consumption during the critical first phase of the permanent units’ installation — your patience as we’ve worked towards the longer-term solution is greatly appreciated,” Mr Farrelly said.
Mr Farrelly also expressed his thanks to Water Board staff and contractors who have put in a major effort to deliver the new units ahead of schedule.
“We are extremely pleased with the rapid progress that’s been made with the first phase of infrastructure works, and are on track to have the fourth permanent filtration unit operating next week,” he said.
Some of the leased filtration units are still in operation, augmenting production from the permanent units, and will be phased out as the new micro-filtration system becomes fully operational by July 2015.
